Job Description for:

Field Officer/Program Coordinator’s Assistant 

Reports to: Executive Director of Community Corrections and Program Coordinator

 

Status: Full Time/Salaried $28,000.00 annually

 

Qualifications: The Field Officer/Program Coordinator’s Assistant must meet or exceed

the following requirements:

  1. High school diploma or GED; four year college degree and/or military/law enforcement/corrections experience preferred;
  2. No felony convictions and ability to pass a random drug screen;
  3. No less than 21 years of age;
  4. Ability to work, as necessary, on weekends, in evenings, extended hours and to occasionally travel out of town, sometimes overnight;
  5. Good moral character;
  6. Knowledge of standard English grammar, punctuation and spelling and the ability to skillfully prepare thorough, accurate and concise reports;
  7. Some clerical skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment;
  8. Advanced knowledge and skill in word processing and use of computer;
  9. Ability to apply knowledge of applicable state laws and Department of Corrections Community Corrections procedures;
  10. Ability to speak clearly and be understood when communicating in person or by telephone;
  11. Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a team environment and to work alone with minimal supervision under time constraints and on several tasks simultaneously;
  12. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, offenders, other county departments, other governmental agencies, public and private agencies and the public while being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities;
  13. Ability to exercise independent judgment in interpretation and application of policies, to function tactfully and effectively under stressful and/or confrontational conditions that require instruction, persuasion or negotiation;
  14. Ability to deal swiftly, rationally and decisively with offenders and take authoritative action while applying appropriate discretion and common sense;
  15. Working knowledge of community resources;
  16. Knowledge of local geography;
  17. Possess valid Indiana driver’s license and a safe driving record;
  18. Ability to maintain highly effective working relationships with all agencies in the community involved in the management of adult offenders; and,
  19. Ability to maneuver in cramped spaces, climb stairs, run, bend, lift, use both hands effectively, enter and exit vehicle numerous times in a shift and see in dimly lit places. 

 

DUTIESThe responsibilities of the Community Corrections Field Officer/Program Coordinator’s Assistant include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Assisting in the administration of the Adult Day Reporting and CTP components and case management;
  2. Assisting with offender intakes, including completing required forms, explaining program rules and conditions; 
  3. Assisting in the installation, maintenance and repairs of electronic monitoring equipment;
  4. Assisting and substituting for the Program Coordinator as needed;
  5. Assisting with training programs and in establishing treatment services, as directed;
  6. Performing in-office/home/worksite field contacts with offenders, monitoring offenders, conducting surveillance of offenders for compliance with program rules and conditions and directives and documenting the substance and results of the contacts, monitoring and surveillance in computer files maintained on each offender;
  7. Searching offenders, their homes and their properties for contraband;
  8. Assisting in determining and administering appropriate sanctions and rewards to offenders;
  9. Administering alcohol and drug screens and tests on offenders and properly forwarding specimens to laboratories for confirmation tests;
  10. Acting as a liaison between Community Corrections, the Courts, service providers, employers and other state and local agencies as required or directed;
  11. Testifying in court, when required;
  12. Maintaining case files, updating all required data reports, compiling and analyzing data, preparing and providing case, progress and statistical reports as necessary to appropriate requestors;
  13. Maintaining case files and records in a confidential manner, as required;
  14. Collecting and documenting the collection of users’ fees;
  15. Compiling or assisting in the compilation of information for and preparing various reports for submission to the DOC on a monthly/quarterly/yearly basis, including financial reports;
  16. Assisting in performing evaluations on offenders and assisting in preparation of evaluation reports on offenders;
  17. Directing offenders to services (treatment/education/employment/etc) and assisting offenders in obtaining the services;
  18. Communicating effectively with all Community Corrections Staff and Offenders;
  19. Attending and successfully completing any training as directed by the Executive Director; and,
  20. Performing any other duties as directed by the Executive Director or Program Coordinator.
